Rhenus Acquires the Wilh. Schon GmbH & Co. KG Freight Forwarding Corporation

The Rhenus Group is taking over 100 percent of the shares in the Wilh. Schon GmbH & Co. KG freight forwarding corporation with effect from 1 August 2011. This long-standing business based at Traben-Trarbach in the western German state of Rhineland Palatinate specializes in transporting wine and consumer goods. Once it has been integrated within the Rhenus Group, the company will trade under the Rhenus Schon GmbH & Co. KG name in the future. Rhenus Schon supplies goods to the German retail and discount store sectors on behalf of renowned producers of wine, sparking wine and spirits.

“The integration of the long-standing Wilh. Schon GmbH & Co. KG company within the Rhenus Group supplements our product portfolio in the area of consumer goods,” says Bernd Markmann, a member of the Rhenus Contract Logistics management team with responsibility for the south-west region in Germany, commenting on the complete acquisition of the business shares. “The existing levels of expertise at Rhenus AG & Co. KG in the distribution of wine and consumer goods, the continuity in terms of human resources and the specialist competence at Traben-Trarbach guarantee the quality of the services provided at the high level, which has been appreciated by customers for a long time.”

The company particularly operates in the region bordering the Mosel River. The products from this region, which is dominated by wine-growing, are transported to their destinations within the food retail and discount store sectors in line with pre-set deadlines. All the vehicles are equipped with the latest telecommunications technology and meet the relevant legal stipulations.

“All the jobs at this business center will be retained when the company is merged into the Rhenus world. We want to push ahead with developments in Traben-Trarbach by making further investments in the future in order to maximize the existing potential within the consumer goods business area in this region as far as possible,” says Bernd Markmann, commenting on the integration process that has just begun to include the corporation in the extensive network within the Rhenus Group.
