Global Ocean Freight

Shipping logistics: Sea Freight / Ocean Freight

There is an inseparable link between the history of sea freight and containers. The success story of large containers began in the second half of the 20th century and they were to revolutionise global trade. Many of the hand movements, which had been standard practice for shipping companies in the past, were dropped as a result of the standardisation of containers. Both the efficiency of sea freight operations and the volumes transported across the world’s oceans increased as a result of this technical progress; it enabled companies to construct automated terminals at seaports and allowed them to satisfy the demands of a global economic system.

The uninterrupted organisation of sea freight services represents a crucial element in our company’s range of services. The integration of Maxx Intermodal Systems and the takeover of the Interspe Hamann Group created a greater density in our existing network of business centres. This brought with it a significant expansion in our range of services; customers using our Air & Ocean business unit have been able to benefit from this development enormously. Above all else, the large volumes of goods that are moved across the oceans between Europe and Asia demand a sophisticated supply chain management scheme.

Local links to the Rhenus network

Rhenus itself operates as a Non Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOOC) and has close links to many shipping companies through preferred carrier programmes. As a result, we are able to always offer you the necessary freight space at competitive prices, even during peak seasons. Using punctual groupage freight departures from European and Asian ports and fixed timetables, we can offer you planning reliability. Rhenus’ strengths in sea freight include complete loads (FCLs) and less than containers loads (LCLs); services are provided on a weekly basis.

For example, we consolidate the goods from various customers at the most important container terminals in Asia at “gateways” and feed the contents of the containers into the Rhenus network as break bulk shipments after the maritime operations have been completed. We are therefore able to provide the quickest possible delivery of goods through our hubs by truck transportrail transport and inland waterway once they have arrived at the European seaports.

We also offer you value-added logistic like packaging and labelling as part of our range of products tailored to your individual needs. We can also handle the complete customs clearence procedurendes for your sea freight.
