In November 2014, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) decided that from 1 July 2016 onwards, the verified gross mass (VGM) of individual sea containers must be determined, documented and disclosed to the shipping company before loading. This new regulation is part of the Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and is intended to contribute to improving maritime safety and protecting ships’ crews.
For this reason, Rhenus is set to offer a weighing service that weighs loads in accordance with the stated requirements at its Bremerhaven site from 1 July 2016. Using a certified weighing system integrated into a reach stacker, a weight note with the relevant data is generated in PDF format and sent by us to the customer. The weighing services are also offered within transshipment orders and separately as individual weighing services and relate to both standard containers as well as container and flat units with out of gauge cargo up to a weight of 40 tonnes.
