Weserport, which provides seaport services at Bremen, is able to look back on a quarter of a century of corporate history on 4 April 2020. Weserport was founded as a joint venture involving the Rhenus Group, Stute Verkehr and Bremen Steelworks in 1995. The company is now managed by Rhenus and ArcelorMittal Bremen. The port logistics specialist has handled about 195 million tonnes of maritime goods during the past 25 years.

Weserport manages four terminals at the industrial ports in Bremen with operating space measuring more than 330,000 square metres; they are equipped with eight cranes in all and are suitable for handling heavy payloads weighing up to 100 tonnes per square metre. The industrial ports can be reached via the Lower and Outer Weser rivers and also by motorway and rail. The quayside, which is almost two kilometres long, can accommodate vessels with a draught of up to 10.50 metres.

“We’ve upgraded the port facilities with major investments during the past few years and have therefore become the port services specialist handling the most goods at the ports in the city state of Bremen. In order to remain successful in future, we need to be very adaptable. We’re mainly focusing on digitally connecting our customers and providing satellite-supported management procedures for our operations at the moment,” says Weserport’s Managing Director, Heiner Delicat.

ArcelorMittal is not only a shareholder, but also Weserport’s largest customer. “Weserport’s been successfully handling the complete port logistics at the site for ArcelorMittal Bremen for 25 years now. In an environment, which is dominated by change and challenges, we continue to rely on the expertise and competitiveness of our service provider and wish it all the very best on its anniversary,” says Reiner Blaschek, the CEO of ArcelorMittal Bremen.

Weserport also works for many other companies in the field of bulk commodity and break bulk cargo services. In addition to steel, ore and coal, structural elements for wind turbines and industrial complexes as well as all kinds of bulk materials are shipped and stored. Weserport has also been a certified specialist disposal company since 2018. The seaport services specialist is also certified according to AEO (Authorised Economic Operator), GMP+ (Good Manufacturing Practice), ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 50001 (Energy) and ISO 45001 (Health and Safety at Work).
