Cuxport completes first German hotel ship project for the BARD Offshore I wind park

The terminal operator Cuxport has further enhanced its profile as a services provider for the offshore industry: the port logistics services provider in Cuxhaven handled the “Regina Baltica”, which has been converted into a hotel ship, for the BARD Group so that it could make 24 trips to a wind park over the past seven months. This was the first time that a hotel vessel has been loaded with the necessary equipment and provisions at a German port (at the Steubenhöft Terminal); these operations took place between Easter and the beginning of November.

A large number of fitters and specialists were needed out at sea in order to complete the construction of the BARD Offshore I wind park this year. The “Regina Baltica”, which was chartered by the BARD Group and managed by SWE Offshore, served as the floating hotel and equipment base for a labour force of as many as 190 people during the work on the wind park, which is located about 100 kilometres north-west of the island of Borkum. They set off to work on the 80 wind turbines installed there from the vessel.

“Thanks to the professional support from Cuxport, the “Regina Baltica” was ideally equipped for its work as a supply base for the wind park, which covers an area measuring about 60 square kilometres. Faced with variable weather conditions and the resulting uncertainties about reaching the destination out at sea, our logistics partner’s flexibility provided a huge advantage in successfully completing the construction phase of our wind park,” says Klaus Klingelhöller, Floatel Project Manager for the BARD Group, underlining Cuxport’s efficiency. “We offer the offshore industry efficient solutions for the work involved in producing and installing wind turbines and maintaining them, which involve some overlap. Our geographical location in water suitable for seagoing vessels and lock-free access to the North Sea and the transhipment equipment that we have at Cuxport enabled us to handle the hotel vessel without any difficulties and load it with the equipment and provisions so that it could travel to the wind park on 24 occasions,” says Roland Schneider, Business Development Manager at Cuxport, summarising the successful team work with the BARD Group on this project.
