Rhenus Graduate Testimonials

Oliver Brown: Marketing Management Graduate

What I've Learnt & Done:

After graduating from university, studying Business with a placement year, I started Rhenus in September 2018. Joining the team in Manchester as a Marketing Graduate I had an eventful first few months. New to the logistics world, I soon discovered it's a complex, varied industry, but one with endless opportunities. As I did a placement year, the office lifestyle wasn't as much of a shock, but it definitely helped that everyone in Rhenus made me feel so welcome from day one. To date, I've been involved in a variety of projects, from website content to PR. My primary role has been transitioning to taking over the UK's marketing responsibilities, so I have regular contact with our central team in Germany and my colleagues across the UK.

Position I'm Currently In:

I work in the UK marketing team, reporting into one of our Branch Managers while also working closely with our UK commercial team and central marketing team.

Why Rhenus?

Since my placement year two years earlier at a conglomerate I was sure I wanted to work at a global company - although when asked for an example of a global company most people wouldn't jump to Rhenus, I soon discovered the company to be a "sleeping giant", with over 31,000 employees spanning 660 offices, making it truly global. Having said this, although global, Rhenus is a family-owned company, so you have the benefits of a company with a global presence, such as travelling and learning from colleagues across the globe. While also benefiting from the family-owned side, with a closer-knit community.

What Motivates Me:

Repressing the Rhenus brand image in the UK is a massive motivator to me. Personally, when I see a company's website, or brochure, it immediately impacts my opinions of the company and brand, and ultimately plays a large part in my decision to choose the company or not. Though I may not work with our end customers directly I enjoy the satisfaction of hearing a customer was pleased with our marketing material for example.

My Favourite Project/Achievement At Rhenus:

Brexit. If you asked me a year ago it would be at the very bottom of my favourites list. However, having had the chance to work with some of our key Brexit experts it's given me a wealth of knowledge in customs and allowed me to create new ideas to present existing, but unused information.

Advice To Others:

My advice to others would be to support yourself with as much work experience as possible and most importantly, be open-minded. Entering a new industry or job role can be quite a challenge at first so you need to keep an open mind to learning opportunities and new ideas for your job role.
