The German Government has decided to expand the truck toll on all federal roads transiting to and from Germany along with Austria which has adopted a similar toll. In the course of the two-stage toll adjustment adopted by the German Government, the first step was completed in July 2018, with the second step commencing 1st January 2019. As a result, the toll payable will rise significantly depending on the vehicle category. For example, for the Euro VI vehicle group with the lowest current level of pollutants, the toll will rise by between 38.5 and 59.8% per km to 18.7 cent per km, depending on the number of axles.
The implication of this toll will effect 40,000 km of federal roads for trucks above 7.5 tonnes. This toll rise will be used by the German government to improve and maintain the national road network.
From the 1st January 2019 the MAUT surcharge increased by 2% for shipments transiting through and to Germany and Austria.
